Designing Accessible and Affordable Walls With Artfully Walls

Artfully Walls

Artfully Walls is a digital gallery showcasing a variety of artists, offering affordable costs for art and printing. What makes Artfully Walls different than the dozens of other online art platforms out there? The team is very aware that art is most likely the last thing designers and clients consider when finishing a project. This is why Artfully Walls has invested in creating “wall designer”, a tool enabling designers and customers style their own walls using a virtual tool to apply compositions, layouts, framing, paint colors and more, grouping together different pieces to preview before purchase.

Artfully Walls shares their strategy for showcasing art on a gallery wall, the functionality of their nifty “wall designer” imaging tool, and tips for interior designers on how to make the most out of the online gallery.

How is Artfully Walls different from the other online curated art gallery marketplaces out there making art more affordable and accessible?
Our portfolio of art is unique and highly curated – all of the art on Artfully Walls is individually picked by our curators. Many of the pieces are exclusive to Artfully Walls and numerous artists do not produce prints anywhere else. Additionally, very often people are intimidated by selecting art for their homes. We showcase our art on styled gallery walls and in different groupings as a way of inspiring customers, and a starting point for curating their own collection. Additionally we take great pride in the quality of our prints, and use quality fine art paper, archival inks and the latest printing technologies. Our goal is to make great art accessible to all!

Based on your experience, how do your customers typically search for the right art print? Are they filtering by decor style, room, category, style, medium, color or price?

We have found that our customers like to be inspired by different looks they see. In part, our gallery walls feature different looks and styles that customers can be inspired by, and change to their liking. Additionally, we have a Designers Picks series, where leading taste makers share some of their art picks and styling suggestions, which customers love to see and be inspired by. Beyond that, customers absolutely use different filtering options, and find that that decor style, are also important factors.

What is your criteria for featuring a new artist?
We are always looking for new artists to feature on the site! There isn’t a set criteria per se for what artists we feature, but our curators are definitely looking for new discoveries and for art that further diversifies our portfolio beyond what is currently on the site. Occasionally, we also curate special themed collections, and we will then scour the art world for artists that fit the the collection.

How does the “wall designer”, your online imaging tool, work exactly? How is this helpful for interior designers sourcing pieces for clients?
The wall designer allows customers and designers to style their own walls. This tool gives access to all of the pieces on the site, and allows users to style their own wall. They can select different compositions, layouts, framing and matting options, and even wall paint colors! Designers can put together different art grouping suggestions that they can with the click of a button send their clients to see.

It seems as if art is often the last thing people look for when designing their homes.

What are some of your best-selling categories and styles?
People tend to like abstracts, florals, landscapes and seascapes a lot. Photography is also a biggie, especially travel photography. Furthermore, when we introduce a new art style to the site, it can take some time for people to get used to the idea, and then it can often become a best-seller.

Tell us about your recent collaboration with Anthropologie…
This is a collaboration we are really proud of! It is an on-going collaboration in which we create specially curated seasonal collections through the lens of the Anthropologie customer.

What’s unique about the Artfully Walls trade program for interior designers?
In addition to our trade discount, we are happy to work with designers on a one-on-one basis to understand their needs. We are also happy to try and curate special collections for them and source particular works that they may be interested in.

In your experience, why do people hesitate to purchase art for their residence? Do you have some words of advice to remedy that feeling?

It seems as if art is often the last thing people look for when designing their homes. Conceptually, people think that when buying art, it needs to be a large investment, and once you make that investment you are “stuck with it”, so make sure it’s a good one. And let’s be honest, often at the end of the design process, not a lot of money is always left. We believe that art should be fun, and reflect your personal taste. Buying art from Artfully Walls isn’t such a large expense. You should focus on things that you like and make you feel good. It’s ok if in another few years you see that your tastes have changed a bit – when it’s affordable you can update accordingly!
